An excellent opportunity has become available for a highly motivated and passionate Linux Administrator to join the Network Gateway Operations Team.


The opportunity:

As a Linux Administrator, you will be responsible for the build and maintenance of Linux systems and provide complex platform and security services to infrastructure, products and services supplied and operated by Telstra.


Due to the nature of the work applicants MUST have an active AGSVA Baseline Clearance at a minimum to be eligible with the ability to obtain a Negative Vetting (NV1) security clearance.


Your key responsibilities and major tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Build and maintenance Linux based systems
  • Provide L2 and L3 systems administration for Linux platforms providing gateway functionality
  • System and application patching
  • Operating System and Application Configuration
  • Performance Monitoring
  • Incident resolution
  • Assist with automation of day-to-day tasks
  • Prepare process documentation to support the Linux environment, provide input into and maintain technical documentation
  • Provide support to other areas of the business as needed from time to time
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call roster as required


Enough about us, let's talk about you. To hit the ground running we are looking for individuals who can confidently demonstrate the following:

  • Intermediate to advanced level Linux based system administration activities including high level troubleshooting in a complex gateway environment
  • Proficient in at least one or two scripting languages EG: Shell, Python, Perl.
  • Working knowledge of server orchestration tools such as ansible, docker and Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of GIT, GITLAB and CI/CD workflows
  • Experience performing complex incident investigation and customer restorations
  • Knowledge and experience in supporting and troubleshooting networking services and protocols such as: TCP/IP, DNS, NFS, LDAP, FTP, SSH, SNMP, SSL and SMTP
  • Experience performing application support functions. Building and maintaining systems used for alarming, backups, and reporting – highly desirable
